Simple step-down DC-DC converter as the 5V power supply for microelectronics constructions.
Here is simple 5V/200mA switching power supply with the monolitic converter MAX639 
.
This power supply needs only one small IC (DIP8), two capacitors, one coil and one Schottky diode.
